PH Participates in the 61st Damascus International Fair

DAMASCUS 15 October 2019 — The Philippines participated in the 61st Damascus International Fair on 28 August to 06 September 2019 at the Damascus City Fairground. It was the first time that the Philippines was represented in the said Fair.
This year’s edtion drew more than 1,700 local and foreign companies including several Embassies, Ministries and Syrian Institutions. Around 38 different countries were represented in the exhibition.
Damascus International Trade Fair has been considered as one of the oldest and largest exhibitions in the Middle East. It is being held annually at Damascus fairground since 1954, covering more than 1,462,000 visitors.
The Philippine booth received more than 10,000 Syrian and foreign guests, who were mostly businessmen interested in Filipino food products exhibited, such as the famous dried mangoes, dried jackfruit, dried papaya, pili nuts, coffee, cocoa tableau, coco jam, peanut spread, canned goods and alcoholic beverages including beer, rhum, gin, lambanog (Filipino distilled palm liquor) and whisky. Other visitors inquired about tourism, and the possibility of studying in Philippine universities.
Prime Minister Imad Khamis, Economics and Foreign Trade Minister Samer Khalil and a number of Syrian officials visited the Philippine booth and expressed their appreciation of the Philippine Embassy’s participation. The Philippine booth was also visited by the Ambassadors of Indonesia, Cuba, North Korea, Deputy Chief of Mission of Russia and other members of the Diplomatic Corps.
For the Philippine Embassy’s active participation in the fair, Chargé d'affaires and Consul General Alex V. Lamadrid was awarded with a Certificate of Appreciation by the Syrian Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Samer Khalil. END
