PH to Showcase History, Cuisine, Arts at the 2019 Frankfurt Book Fair
FRANKFURT 17 October 2019 — Philippine cultural luminaries are set to participate in the 2019 Frankfurt Book Fair with scheduled talks on Philippine history, tourism, cuisine, and education.
The National Book Development Board (NBDB) is again leading the Philippine participation at the world’s largest and most important event for the publishing industry. In addition to the exhibit of books by participating companies, other activities lined up include illustration and cooking demonstrations at the Philippine stand located at Frankfurt Messe’s Hall 4 stand 89.
The schedule of activities are as follows:
16 October 2019, 2:00 PM, (Gourmet and Travel Salon Hall 3.1-L135) - Chef Claude Tayag, a well-known Filipino food author and columnist will introduce the evolution and endless possibilities of Philippine cuisine and demonstrate the process of making the traditional fiesta rice dish bringhe, using heirloom rice grown in Banaue rice terraces, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
17 October 2019, 2:00 PM, (International Stage, Hall 5.1 A128) - Mr. Ambeth Ocampo, a leading Filipino historian, will speak about the Philippines’ national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal and the emergence of a nation.
18 October 2019, 2:00 PM, (Philippine stand) - Ms. Virginia Bautista will hold a talk on digital fluency to uplift Philippine education.
18 October 2019, 4:00 PM, (Frankfurt Kids-Stage Foyer Halls 5.1/6.1) - Ms. Abi Goy, a prolific illustrator, will conduct an illustration demonstration and talk about illustrations from children’s books addressing relevant issues affecting children’s rights.
19 October 2019, 10:00 AM, (Philippine stand) - Ms. Goy will hold an on-the-spot drawing demonstration of the famous Filipino snack, halu-halo.
19 October 2019, 11:00 PM (Gourmet and Travel Salon Hall 3.1-L135) - Ms. Ani Almario, a Filipino educator, will discuss the contribution of Teresita Reyes of the well-known Filipino food brand, Mama Sita, to the enrichment of Philippine culinary traditions.
19 October 2019, 2:00 PM (Gourmet and Travel Salon Hall 3.1-L135) - Filipino-German chef Maitte Dittke-Hontiveros, will hold a cooking demonstration highlighting Mama Sita’s Philippine Journey of Flavors.
The Frankfurt Book Fair, which is the largest international trade fair for the book publishing industry, has become the leading platform to launch new titles and content, as well as to negotiate the international sale of rights and licenses. The five-day annual event held every October in Frankfurt, brings together more than 7,000 exhibitors and 200,000 visitors from more than 100 countries, including publishers, literary agents, authors, illustrators, media professionals, and trade associations. Providing support to the National Book Development Board are the Philippine Consulate General in Frankfurt, the Office of Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda and Department of Tourism Office in Frankfurt.
