PH Consulate General in Agana, U.P. Alumni Guam Celebrate Buwan Ng Wika With Pinoy Trivia Quiz Contest

AGANA 10 September 2019 — In celebration of Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa (National Language Month), the University of the Philippines Alumni Guam (UPAG) hosted the “Pinoy Trivia Katuwaan Lang” on 31 August 2019 at the Tamuning Senior Center, a fund-raising event to benefit UPAG scholars in the Philippines and Guam.

More than 20 teams including the Philippine Consulate General in Agana, officers and members of the various Filipino community organizations, students and faculty of academic institutions, participated in the competition.

In his remarks, Consul General Marciano R. de Borja congratulated UPAG for organizing the well-attended event.  “I agree with UPAG president Dante Perez – that Pinoy Trivia will educate the people,” said Consul General de Borja. 

Winners of the competition were Kumusta Kabayan–a radio program co-hosted by Consul Mark Francis C. Hamoy that won first place, United Architects of the Philippines-Guam Chapter won second place, Bataan Peninsula Association of Guam won third place, and the Philippine Consulate General–composed of Vice Consul Alex Vallespin, Finance Officer Shirley Florendo, Cultural Officer Rosemarie Ramos, Protocol Officer Fritz Gerald Fernandez, and Records Officer Ferdinand Villamor won fourth place. 

The month of August celebrates the national language of the Philippines, Filipino, a standardized form of the Tagalog language and an Austronesian regional language that is widely spoken in the Philippines. It is the country’s designated official language, along with English. END
