COPENHAGEN 11 October 2019 — In line with the declaration of the year 2019 as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Cultural Year and in the celebration of the 52nd Anniversary of ASEAN, the Philippine Embassy joined the fashion show by the ASEAN Embassies in Copenhagen at the Asia House on 24 September 2019.

The event, helmed by the Embassies of the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand and Viet Nam, was attended by more than a hundred guests from the Danish government, diplomatic corps, academe, and business communities.

The fashion show showcased three collections of national costumes of the four ASEAN countries—the traditional women’s wear, contemporary women’s wear, and traditional men’s wear—worn by the Embassies’ personnel and community members.

For the traditional women’s wear, the Philippines wore the popular Filipino dress terno, opulently designed with the famous butterfly sleeves, with a royal blue and gold leaf-like embroidery.

For the contemporary women’s wear, the Philippines wore a Japanese-inspired organza blouse embellished with the Filipino alampay. In addition, the skirt is accented with the Ifugao ikat design handwoven by weavers from Northern Philippines.

For the traditional men’s wear, the Philippines dressed in the traditional men’s barong tagalog made of jusi-piña. The barong was accented with a Tausug fabric from Southern Philippines.

The Embassy also showcased Filipino foods catered by Thrilla in Manila, a Filipino-owned food stall in Copenhagen which also won the People’s Choice Award in the Denmark-leg of the European Street Food Awards 2019. The menu includes Pan de sal with Adobo sliders, Lumpiang Shanghai, and Ube Cheesecake. END
