XIAMEN 11 October 2019 – Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen participates in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Culture and Artistic Creation Season One dubbed “Charming Xiamen – Cultural Jimei” creative exhibition on 15 September 2019 at the ASEAN Culture and Art Exchange Center in Jimei.
The exhibition is held as part of the implementation of Xiamen’s “Cultural Jimei" development strategy, which will run until 31 October 2019. Jimei is one of Xiamen’s bustling suburbs located across Xiamen island.
Nine original artworks of Mr. Ireneo “Rene” Robles Jr., an internationally renowned and award-winning Filipino visual artist, are on display at the exhibit along with more than 200 paintings from more than 30 well-known Chinese and foreign artists from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Japan.
Mr. Robles pioneered the award-winning movement and style called “Assertionism” in the US, which has the “power to assert, transform and transcend” the importance of ordinary objects in human existence (like light bulbs, chairs, doors, electric fans, etc.) into the extraordinary.
Mr. Robles is a highly regarded Filipino artist for his valuable contribution to the promotion of Philippine arts and culture through exhibitions of his world-class artworks in Xiamen/Fujian.
The exhibit was launched to broaden Jimei people's cultural horizon and promote its tourism culture, under the support of the Party Committee’s Propaganda Department of Jimei District and the District’s Neighborhood Office, and jointly organized by the Thailand ASEAN+6 Business Promotion Association China Office, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Culture and Art Exchange Center and other government and private sectors in Xiamen.
Among the VIP guests who attended the opening were Jimei District People's Congress Chairman Chen Jianrong, CPC Jimei District Standing Committee Member and Propaganda Department of Jimei District Director General Lai Zhaohui, Propaganda Department of Jimei District Deputy Director-General Tang Jinfu, Vice President of Jimei District Literature and Arts Federation He Qingyu, among others.
Other guests include artists from China and ASEAN countries, art institutions representatives, members of the Chamber of Commerce in Xiamen, local media, and the academe.
The exhibit provided an excellent platform and opportunity to gather ASEAN & China’s artists, collectors, entrepreneurs, academe, and mainstream media to promote cultural heritage, talents as well as people-to-people contacts. END
