Kuwait stopping abuse cycle

31 March 2014 – The Philippine Embassy in Kuwait celebrates the Women’s Month by holding a Gender and Development program on March 27.  Consul General Raul H. Dado led the discussions on “Human Trafficking: Stopping the cycle of Abuse.” The Consul General also discussed the various mandates of the Philippine government on Human Trafficking and shared the programs and the accomplishments of the Embassy in assisting trafficking victims.

Social Welfare Attaché Ann Mendoza, who just arrived in February 2014 discussed the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Programs and Services for returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), with the general objective to intensify the delivery of recovery, social and economic reintegration services for trafficked persons.

Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point Officer Antonia Caba, delivered the opening remarks and GAD Focal Point Alternate Officer and Welfare Officer Norlita Lugtu gave the closing remarks.  Labor Attaché Cesar Chavez presented the brief status of OFWs in the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) shelter and the programs of Philippine Overseas Labor Office and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (POLO-OWWA) in assisting them.  Mr. Joven Cabanes, Consular Assistant, serenaded the women with the beautiful song, “She”.
