JEDDAH 14 October 2019 – The International Philippine School in Jeddah (IPSJ) celebrated Buwan ng Wika and National Nutrition month through various cultural activities on 29 August 2019 at the school grounds.
With the theme, “Wika at Kulturang Katutubo: Yaman at Dangal ng Makabagong Filipino,” the event showcased the Filipino dance singkil, Original Pilipino Music (OPM), ethnic costumes, and cuisines representing the Philippines’ ethno-linguistic groups. About 1,500 Filipino and non-Filipino students, parents, faculty members, and guests attended the event.
Consul General Edgar B. Badajos, through Vice Consul Alfred Kristoffer Guiang who represented the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah at the festivities, said that this year’s celebration of Buwan ng Wika is an opportune time for the school’s Filipino student population to be reminded of the beauty and diversity of their Filipino identity and language.
“The National Nutrition Month celebration, on the other hand, should not only promote healthy diet among Filipino students, but also healthy living such as having an active lifestyle and getting enough sleep which will result in optimal performance of students in school and in their everyday activities,” Consul General Badajos said in his remarks delivered by Vice Consul Guiang.
IPSJ is the first and oldest Philippine school in Jeddah. Its student population is composed of second and third generation of Filipinos in Saudi Arabia. END
