PH Consul General to San Francisco Meets with California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services

SAN FRANCISCO 14 October 2019 — Consul General to San Francisco Henry S. Bensurto Jr. met with Filipino-American officials from the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (OES) namely Senior Adviser Mona Pasquil Rogers, Deputy Director for Planning, Preparedness and Prevention Christina Curry, and Chief of OES’ Office of Legislative and External Affairs Chief Reggie Salvador, on 23 September 2019 at the OES headquarters in Mather, California.

During the meeting, OES officials gave a tour of their command center, which is activated during large-scale emergencies and disasters. The command center performs all coordination work in managing the disaster and serves as a liaison for federal and local officials, the media, affected individuals and families, and other stakeholders.  It is operational 24/7 for the duration of the calamity.

Consul General Bensurto requested OES’s assistance in providing immediate information on the status of possible Filipinos affected during calamities. He also proposed possible future collaborations with the Philippines on exchange of best practices and possible trainings on disaster preparedness and response.

OES is the coordinating agency for the State of California in the areas of emergency preparedness, response, recovery and homeland security activities. OES dispatches teams to assist those affected by disasters and other events that threaten public safety.END
