JEDDAH 25 October 2019 – The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah participated in a Coastal Clean-up Drive organized by the Philippine Professional Organization in the Western Region, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (PPO-WRSA) along the stretch of the Buhairat Public Beach, Obhur on 18 October 2019.
Around 30 Filipino professionals, who work as medical doctors, dentists, architects, engineers, nurses, etc., participated in the clean-up drive, as well as by more than a dozen personnel from the Consulate.
Head of the Consulate Atty. Chares Marie R. Torres-Elacion, in her inspirational message, lauded the activity in caring for the environment and called the participants to cheer “Mabuhay ka, Kabayan!”
“It feels good to connect, as it is when we are with nature. Sadly, the use of plastic – a material designed to last forever – has been widespread, that a substantial amount ends up as marine litter,” Atty. Torres-Elacion said. She urged them to promote the importance of clean-up drives and make cleaning the environment a habit, without waiting for someone to do so.
A Certificate of Appreciation from the Consulate was awarded to the President of the PPO-WRSA Engr. Tim Francis A. Albis, as a commendation for their socio-civic activity. END
