JEDDAH 17 October 2019 — The Philippine Consulate in Jeddah held the soft launching of its new library on 01 October 2019 to encourage Filipinos who are passionate about reading in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The soft launch marks the countdown towards 05 December 2019, the inauguration and formal opening to the public of the Consulate’s Library which would be attended by Filipino officials and students from various academic institutions.

“Through reading, we will be able to fight off ignorance and be more informed of relevant social issues around the world. Reading will be able to transport us to various worlds and experiences, contributing to our intellectual and personal development,” Consul General Badajos said during his welcoming speech at the event.

During the program, Farrah Jasmine Dingal, daughter of Consul Mary Jennifer Dingal, wowed the audience with a spoken word poetry performance, while selected students from the Al Dura International School gave an artistic chorale reading presentation that centered on the beauty and wonders of reading.

One of the library’s forthcoming projects are the “Bitbit Kong Libro Para sa Konsulado” and the “Project Bibo Ako”, where OFWs would be encouraged to bring back with them a book for the library everytime they go on vacation in the Philippines or elsewhere. Other projects include the Library Scavenger Hunt for Kids that would take place by the end of the year as well as the Library’s grand inauguration.

The Consulate Library is envisioned to have a wide collection of books and reading materials that can be accessed by the Filipino community in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to increase their intellectual advancement. It is also envisioned to serve as a venue for academic activities such as fora, lectures, seminars, and conferences. END
