 PH Embassy in Manama launches Second Edition of WIKKA

MANAMA 30 October 2019 — With the aim to promote Philippine culture and create awareness among Filipino youth who were born and raised abroad, the Philippine Embassy in Manama launched its Wika, Kultura, at Kasaysayan (WIKKA) sa Embahada program at the Chancery on 11 October 2019.

Now on its second year, a total of 40 children registered for the classes. The participants, as well as parents and volunteers, attended the first day of classes and the opening ceremony.

In her welcome address, Consul General Maria Paz Cortes, Chargé d'affaires a.i., expressed her gratitude to the parents of the participants for entrusting their children to the WIKKA team and for acknowledging that it is important for their children to learn about their Filipino heritage. She then encouraged the students to seize the chance to learn and understand their country and heritage through language, history and culture classes which will be taught in WIKKA.

Consul General Cortes also thanked the volunteer teachers who have committed their time and talents to guide the participants in appreciating and learning about their culture. 

WIKKA sa Embahada program is a flagship project of the Philippine Embassy in Manama. It will run for eight weeks during the weekends and will culminate with a graduation ceremony to be held on 06 December 2019.  END
