PH Consulate General in San Francisco Signs Partnership Agreement with Alvarado Project

SAN FRANCISCO 30 October 2019 – To inspire more Filipino-Americans, from the younger generations, to be the new vanguards of Filipino culture and heritage, the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco in partnership with the Alvarado Project signed the Spark*Connect*Empower (SCE) project on 06 October 2019 at the Manilatown Heritage Center.
The agreement was signed by the Consulate General’s Consul Jed Llona and the Alvarado Project’s Executive Director Janet Alvarado. It was witnessed by the Commissioner of the Superior Court of California’s Alameda County Atty. Pelayo Llamas Jr. The event was also attended by San Mateo County Supervisor and former Daly City Mayor David Canepa.
Spark*Connect*Empower is a movement that the Consulate initiated in 2017 with the realization that with recent trends and shifts in demography, indicating that millennials and Gen-Zs are outnumbering the first generation Filipinos of the possibility that Filipino identity, culture, and heritage among Filipino-Americans in the United States could be lost.
The Alvarado Project is a community-based, non-profit, volunteer organization that seeks to foster multicultural understanding through cultural programs, including the collection of historically significant artifacts and materials about the Filipino American community. The organization is committed to initiating activities that will spark love among Filipino Americans for their Filipino heritage and culture, connect them with like-minded networks and individuals and empower them to take action for the betterment of the country.
The Alvarado Project also spearheaded the filing of California Senate Concurrent Resolution 20 and California Assembly Concurrent Resolution 129, designating 20 October as Leyte Landing Commemoration Day.
During the signing ceremony, Consul Jed Llona thanked The Alvarado Project for their support towards the realization of the objectives of the SCE movement, “We thank The Alvarado Project for its activities, including its work in advocating for the commemoration of 20 October as Leyte Landing Day through California Congressional Resolutions, as well as its forthcoming remembrance trip to Leyte, which are testaments to the organization’s commitment in advancing the ideals of the SCE movement.” END
