Fil-Am Artists Showcased in Pangitain at Pananaw Art Exhibit

LOS ANGELES 07 November 2019 — In celebration of Filipino-American History Month, the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles, in partnership with the Filipino American Service Group, Inc. (FASGI), held the Artists Reception for the art exhibit “Pangitain at Pananaw,” on 11 October 2019 at the FASGI Bayanihan Center located in Historic Filipinotown Los Angeles.

The month-long exhibit, which is a part of FASGI’s Arts Incubator Program (FAIP), featured various works from eight Southern California-based Filipino-American visual artists namely, FASGI Arts Director Rafael Maniago, FASGI Arts Coordinator Maria Cristina “Tiinz” Taruc, Juan “Magoo” Valencia, Rodolfo Samonte, Ed Gumamit, Maria Mila “Ola” Dela Fuente, Lutzie Francisco and Margarita Marfori.

The paintings depicted beautiful flora and fauna of the Philippines as well as the artists’ varied interpretation of the Filipino customs and traditions, as well as the country’s strong Christian devotion.

FASGI is a nonprofit neighborhood-based service provider established in 1981. Its social services include mental health counseling, naturalization application assistance, immigration, and legal referral, among others. The group created FAIP in 2016 to promote Filipino culture through the arts and empower Filipino-American artists by providing them opportunities for career advancement. The program includes an artist-in-residence, a permanent gallery, special exhibits, portraiture, and parol-making. END
