TOKYO 07 November 2019 — The Philippine Embassy in Tokyo supported the ASEAN Festival 2019 organized by the ASEAN Youth Network in Japan (AYNJ) at the Hollywood University in Roppongi Hills in this city on 27 October 2019.

The ASEAN Festival, now in its 14th year, held the theme “ASEAN to the World,” which aimed at showcasing the culture, food, and talent of ASEAN to the international community through the perspective of the ASEAN youth studying in Japan.

During the opening ceremony, the Philippine Embassy highlighted Japan’s heart-to-heart relationship with ASEAN as articulated by former Prime Minister Takeo Fukuda, now famously known as the Fukuda Doctrine, and emphasized how this heart-to-heart relationship can extend its borders between ASEAN and the world through the youth.

The Association of Filipino Students in Japan (AFSJ), as the Philippine representative, set-up a country booth and participated in the cultural performance, fashion show, and singing competition.

The AYNJ was formally established in 2006 as a platform among ASEAN students to cooperate on several initiatives, facilitate youth exchange, and strengthen the relationship between the youth of ASEAN and Japan. The AFSJ is a member of AYNJ’s Executive Committee. END
