LOS ANGELES 08 November 2019 — The Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles led the installation of the newly-elected officers of the Silliman University Alumni Association of Southern California (SUAASC) on 19 October 2019 in the City of Montebello, California.
Before the induction of the elected officers, Consul Rea G. Oreta delivered a message citing the University’s good standing and ranking among Christian Universities in the Philippines. She challenged the Association to continue embodying the “Silliman spirit” as it continues to serve the Filipino-American community in Southern California. She also encouraged the Association’s young alumni to participate in the annual Filipino Young Leaders Program (FYLPRO).
FYLPRO is an annual young leadership program spearheaded by the Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C., and the Philippine Consulates General in the United States of America in cooperation with the Ayala Foundation. FYLPRO selects outstanding young professionals in the Filipino communities across the United States and brings them to an immersion program in the Philippines, including interaction with distinguished Filipinos and government leaders.
Newly installed SUAASC President, Faith Manigsaca Duran, expressed her appreciation to her fellow Sillimanians for the trust given to her and assured them that she would take the lead in promoting goodwill.
SUAASC is a 41-year old Filipino community organization that aims to maintain the cordial relations among the Siliman alumni based in Southern California. END
