LOS ANGELES 08 November 2019 — The Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles took part in the annual conferment of awards to exceptional Filipinos and Filipino-Americans organized by the Philippine Heritage Institute International (PHII) on 12 October at the Great Wolf Lodge, Garden Grove, California.

The theme for this year’s awarding ceremony was “30 Years of Community Service through Education, Health and Youth Development.”

The Consulate General was represented by Deputy Consul General Ambrosio Brian F. Enciso III. In his remarks, the Deputy Consul General commended PHII for recognizing Filipinos and Filipino-Americans whose distinct accomplishments and exceptional leadership have significantly contributed to the good image of the Filipino-American community in Southern California.

He also lauded the awardees for their passion and dedication to make a difference and be of help to their kababayans. He concluded his speech by challenging those who were present to emulate the legacy of PHII’s founder, Palma-Armada, in her advocacy of engaging Filipino-American youth in development programs and Philippine cultural activities.

The life and works of Palma-Armada, who became a member of the White House Millennium Council instituted by the then President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton, was also commemorated during the program.

Established in 1989, PHII is a non-profit organization aiming to help the Filipino-American community through research, health, education and by recognizing said exceptional efforts. END
