PH Launches Exhibit on Nuclear Science, Technology for Every “Juan”

VIENNA 08 October 2019 – On the margins of the 63rd General Conference (GC) of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Philippine delegation, led by Ambassador Maria Cleofe R. Natividad and Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) Director Carlo Arcilla, launched the exhibit on nuclear science and technology for every “Juan” on 16 September 2019.
The Philippine exhibit, which ran until 19 September 2019, displayed various peaceful applications of nuclear science and technology that have benefitted the lives of everyday Filipinos. These applications include the development of radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic imaging, irradiation of mangoes for quarantine treatment, and the use of radiation-processed carrageenan (from seaweed) to enhance rice productivity.
The opening was graced by IAEA Acting Director General Cornel Feruţă, who lauded the benefits of international cooperation on the use of nuclear science for peace and development. END
