CANBERRA 11 November 2019 – As part of the Windows to the World, the Philippine Embassy in Canberra and the Department of Tourism of the Philippines held the first Filipino BBQ Festival at the Philippine Embassy grounds here on 19 October 2019.

Ambassador to Australia Ma. Hellen B. De La Vega said that the event is part of the Philippine Government’s tourism campaign #eatsmorefuninthephilippines, which aims to bring to the global stage the wide variety of Filipino cuisine and our unique dining culture making the Philippines a prime food destination for travelers.

Four participating stallholders, Lolo and Lola, Delikase, Grill-ax, and Panga ni Kuyang, served a variety of Filipino BBQ and other popular Filipino dishes throughout the day.

A cooking demonstration on five ways to cook adobo by Lolo and Lola Filipino Eatery with the support of the Filipino Food Movement brought excitement to the BBQ day.

Attending kids were treated with coloring and painting activities, traditional Filipino games, and a storybook reading by the Filipino Language School in Canberra and the Embassy.

Guests also had an opportunity to learn more about the travel opportunities to the Philippines, especially with the reopening of Boracay, at the Embassy and Tourism booth.

Around 2,329 people attended the 6-hour open day event. END
