CANBERRA 29 October 2019 – Ambassador to Australia Ma. Hellen B. De La Vega, with the support of the Philippine Department of Tourism, hosted the “Windows to the World Ambassador’s Lunch” for guests to enjoy an intimate experience of Filipino cuisine on 19 October 2019 at the Official Residence of the Philippine Ambassador.
This Filipino lunch was curated by the Filipino Food Movement Australia, a registered non-profit organization which aims to bring Filipino cuisine to mainstream Australian dinner tables by sharing their collective knowledge and culinary ancestry.
“There are many things our countries do together to enhance agricultural productivity in the Philippines. It is our hope to serve the wider Australian market with naturally-grown and better-produced Philippine products,” Ambassador De La Vega remarked.
The lunch featured Filipino pork barbecue, sourdough bread with adobo pâté, okoy (vegetable fritters with prawn), kare-kare (oxtail in peanut stew), and maja blanca (coconut and sweet corn pudding) for dessert. The guests from the government and business sector, as well as the members of the media thoroughly enjoyed the lunch that also included a vegan option.
The event is part of the Philippine Government’s tourism campaign #eatsmorefuninthephilippines that brings the wide variety of Filipino cuisine and the country’s unique dining culture to the global stage, making the Philippines a prime food destination for travellers. END
