JEDDAH 30 October 2019 — With the UN flag prominently displayed at the work stations and personnel all dressed in the national costumes of the UN member states while providing services to clients all throughout the day, the Consulate General in Jeddah celebrated the United Nations (UN) Day on 23 October 2019.
Acting Head of Post Consul Mary Jennifer Dingal said that the celebration aims to strengthen public awareness on UN, an international organization which has helped advance the well-being of the peoples and maintain peace and security around the world.
The Philippines is among the signatories of the 1942 UN Declaration, and is one of the 51 original member states of the United Nations (UN). The UN officially came into existence on 24 October 1945, with the entry into force of the UN Charter in 1945. In 1948, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declared 24 October, the anniversary of the Charter of the United Nations, as which "shall be devoted to making known to the people of the world the aims and achievements of the United Nations and to gaining their support” for its work. In 1971, the UNGA adopted a resolution (United Nations Resolution 2782) declaring that United Nations Day shall be an international observance or international holiday. END
