MOSCOW 19 November 2019 —A Filipino who was not allowed to exit Russia for having violated the terms of her e-Visa was assisted by the Philippine Embassy in Russia at its Shelter on 23 October 2019.

The Filipino, whose name is withheld due to privacy issues, entered Russia through St. Petersburg on an e-Visa which allowed her to enter and exit only through that city. However, instead of complying with the terms of the e-Visa, she proceeded to Moscow and was detained when she tried to exit through one of the airports in Moscow.

The Filipino is currently at the Embassy Shelter while Embassy personnel are working on her case.

Ambassador to Russia Carlos D. Sorreta said the new e-Visa system will allow for greater people-to-people contact and increase understanding between the Philippines and Russia.  Ambassador Sorreta added that Filipinos who use this e-Visa should observe its strict limitations.

“We would like to ask everyone who will avail of the Russian e-visa to fully understand that there are strict limitations that must be followed. E-visas are city specific and exclude all other parts of Russia,” Ambassador Sorreta said. He added that those interested in visiting Russia on an e-Visa should carefully examine all conditions under the e-Visa.
