Photo Exhibition on UNESCO World Heritage Sites of the PH Opens at Robinsons Galleria Xiamen

XIAMEN 20 November 2019 — In line with the celebration of the 2019 Indigenous People’s Month, the Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen successfully launched “The Beauty of the Philippines: A Photo Exhibition on the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of the Philippines” held at Robinsons Galleria in Xiamen City on 22 October 2019.

The exhibit, which ran from 22 to 29 October 2019, is a joint collaboration of the Consulate General, the UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines (UNACOM), Robinsons Galleria Xiamen and Tawid Heritage Center, one of the Consulate General’s cultural diplomacy partners.

The exhibit mounted 30 framed photos showcasing the six Philippine heritage sites proclaimed by UNESCO in cultural and natural categories which include the Baroque Churches of the Philippines (San Agustin Church in Manila, Paoay Church in Ilocos Norte, Santa Maria Church in Ilocos Sur, Miag-ao Church in Iloilo), Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park, the Rice Terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras, Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, the Historic City of Vigan and Mount Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary.

In his remarks, Consul General to Xiamen Julius Caesar A. Flores expressed appreciation to UNACOM - Philippines for its valuable support and stated that the showcased Philippine sites provided an excellent introduction of the rich and diverse beauty of the Philippine archipelago. He also expressed appreciation to Robinsons Galleria Xiamen management and staff as well as to the Consulate General’s cultural diplomacy partners for their valuable support toward the successful staging of the exhibit.

Among the VIP guests who attended the opening ceremony were Ms. Viola Wang of Robinsons Galleria Xiamen, Prof. Shi Xueqin, Vice Dean of Xiamen University’s Nanyang (Southeast Asia) Institute, Ms. Rosa Chai of Haisi Charity Association, Ms. Chan Su of Sunshine Culture Company, and Filipino Association in Xiamen (FAX) President Eric Dychauco.

Members of the Filipino community, business sector, media, academe, and official contacts and friends likewise attended the opening ceremony.

The Manila Xiamen International School (MXIS) faculty provided performances showcasing medleys of Filipino pop songs. Philippine tourism materials, Oishi products and snacks, and other freebies and giveaways were handed out to the delight of the guests and the shopping public.

The exhibition is a mainstreaming activity under the Consulate General’s cultural diplomacy thrusts for 2019 which aims to promote the Philippines in Fujian and elsewhere which will contribute towards the nurturing and strengthening of ties between the Philippines and China.

The exhibit at the Robinsons Galleria is the second photo exhibition showcasing the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of the Philippines in a shopping complex in Xiamen in 2019. END
