OSLO 20 November 2019 — Being a sustainability champion knows no age. Such is the driving force of the Filipino participants who were in Oslo, Norway, to attend the 4th Our Ocean Conference Youth Leadership Summit on 23 to 24 October 2019.

Granted with different educational and professional backgrounds including marine science, biology, international studies, marine conservation, and even statistics, the participants—Dave Arthur Robledo, Bret Hart Gutierrez, Romina Therese Lim, Camille Cabujat, and Bryan Madera—all have the same goal which is to learn as much as they can from the summit and apply this information in protecting the Philippines’ oceans.

During the participants’ courtesy call, Ambassador to Norway Jocelyn S. Batoon-Garcia emphasized the importance of coming up with practical and realistic solutions in responding to climate change and protecting the Philippines’ oceans and other natural resources. She also challenged the Filipino participants to begin by advocating for the Filipino youth to use less plastic in their daily lives and support environmentally-friendly companies.

The Our Ocean Conference Youth Leadership Summit is an integral part of the Our Ocean Conference 2019, and is co-organized by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Sustainable Ocean Alliance (SOA), and the University of Tromsø. With the theme, “Co-creating the Sustainable Blue Economy,” the Youth Leadership Summit is an opportunity to inspire, inform, and empower youth participants to build holistic solutions that better balance the needs of society, industry, and the ocean environment.
