PH, ICRC Vow to Continue Cooperation on Better Humanitarian Protection for Filipinos Affected by Emergencies

Philippine Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Other International Organizations Ambassador Evan P. Garcia(left), and President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer (right) had a productive exchange on 30 October 2019 in relation to the upcoming 33rd International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, which will be held in Geneva from 09 to 12 December 2019.

Ambassador Garcia and Mr. Maurer mentioned climate change and migration as areas for priority attention. Both sides also agreed to explore potential areas of engagement to strengthen their partnership in the country and vowed to continue to work together to ensure humanitarian assistance for people affected by disasters in the Philippines.

Ambassador Garcia commended the outstanding cooperation of the ICRC with the Philippine Government and the Philippine Red Cross and expressed support for the inclusion of migration and climate change discourse in the upcoming Conference. END
