UNESCO Declares Cebu as Creative City

PARIS 25 November 2019 – United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) designated Cebu City as part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN).

A total of 66 cities, including Cebu in the field of design, have been proclaimed as UNESCO Creative Cities by Director-General Audrey Azoulay in October 2019. As laboratories of ideas and innovative practices, the UNESCO Creative Cities bring a tangible contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals through innovative thinking and action.

The UCCN, created in 2004, aims to promote cooperation with and among cities that have identified creativity as a strategic factor for sustainable urban development. It is currently formed by 246 cities covering seven creative fields: Crafts & Folk Art, Design, Film, Gastronomy, Literature, Music and Media Arts.

UNESCO Creative Cities in the Philippines also include the city of Baguio. END
