PARIS 25 November 2018 — As part of the Embassy’s thrust to empower Filipino women and help overseas Filipinos in France, the third edition of the “Magtanong kay Attorney,” a free legal aid program, was conducted by the Embassy in Paris in partnership with the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) from 28 September to 1 October 2019.

About 100 members of the Filipino community in France, majority of whom were women, benefited from the free legal aid.

Attorney Minerva M.B. Ambrosio, the National Director for Legal Aid of the IBP and Attorney Gemma Oquendo, the former Deputy Director of the National Center for Legal Aid of the IBP, rendered legal advice to Filipinos on topics ranging from family law to civil law, through face-to-face and online legal consultation.

The “Magtanong kay Attorney” program also included livestreamed discussions by Atty. Ambrosio and Atty. Oquendo on legal topics that concern our kababayans such as legal separation, nullity of marriage, adoption, and purchasing condominiums and other real properties, among others. Part of the program also included a seminar for the Embassy personnel on two topics—purchasing condominiums, and civil status and legal instruments.

Expressing her full support to the program, Ambassador to France Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro said, “The Embassy is aware that a number of Filipinos in France may be experiencing problems that need legal solutions. That is why we ensured the implementation of the ‘Magtanong kay Attorney’ program to help our kababayans. We also note that in all editions of the program, majority of those who sought help were women. Thus, the project is also a way of promoting the Gender and Development (GAD) goals of the Embassy.”

This is the third year that the “Magtanong Kay Attorney” Program was successfully conducted by the Embassy, in cooperation with the IBP and Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs (OUMWA). END
