MANADO 26 November 2019 — Philippine Ambassador to Indonesia Lee Hiong Tan Wee and Philippine Consul General to Manado Oscar Orcine welcomed Secretary Emmanuel Piñol of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) along with some 40 businessmen and officials of MinDA and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). The visiting delegation from the Philippines were on a trade and business mission to Sulawesi from 28 October to 01 November 2019.

Represented in the Philippine delegation are business interests in agriculture, aquaculture, cement, coconut and coffee processing, construction and engineering, education and training, fish processing, game fowl breeding, gold and nickel mining, packaging services, and waste neutralization and management, among others.

Over 100 Indonesian government officials and businessmen, led by the Provincial Government of North Sulawesi, met with members of the Philippine delegation to explore import and export opportunities in a business-matching activity at Sintesa Peninsula Hotel on 29 October 2019 in Manado.

On the same day, the Philippine Consulate General in Manado dispatched one team to Gorontalo and another team to Makassar City to lead smaller business delegations to similar business matching events. The two teams separately engaged Indonesian local trade officials and businessmen and presented opportunities to procure Philippine products and services.

In the week-long event, members of the Philippine delegation also visited a banana chips factory, cement warehouse, charcoal briquette factory, cookie factory, coconut processing plant, container ports, corn warehouse, herbal medicine factory, tuna canning factory, fresh tuna packaging facility and wastewater treatment plant, among others.

Contracts and agreements were entered into during the trade and business mission, some of which should translate to actual exchange of goods and money before the year ends. END
