PH Embassy in The Hague Meets IKEA Executives

THE HAGUE 27 November 2019 — Philippine Ambassador to the Netherlands Jaime Victor V. Ledda, together with Commercial Counsellor Benedict M. Uy, met IKEA International Relations Leader Dr. Ehsan Turabaz on 28 October 2019 to follow-through on the upcoming first IKEA store in the Philippines. The Embassy officials also called on Inter IKEA Systems B.V. Managing Director Jon Abrahamsson Ring who also affirmed IKEA's keen interest to launch in the Philippines.

IKEA, tagged by Reuters as the “World's Largest Furniture Retailer," will give millions of Filipinos easy access to a wide range of well-designed, functional home furnishing products.

According to Dr. Turabaz, IKEA targets to open its first store and e-commerce in the Philippines by 2021 and that it will be the largest shop floor in the world.

Aside from IKEA's normal business operations, its executives and the Embassy officials exchanged ideas on how the company can further engage the Filipino community through various options ranging from youth and women empowerment, helping local small and mid-sized enterprises (SMEs), environmental protection. and support for natural disaster preparedness efforts.

Ambassador Ledda extended assurances to IKEA that the Embassy and the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will help facilitate IKEA's venture to the Philippines, which will be a major provider of direct and indirect employment and a show of confidence of the major international companies toward the Philippines’ growing economy.
