PH Representatives Participate in Workshop on Institutionalizing Inclusive Peace and Security

NORWAY 03 December 2019 —The Philippines participated at the recently concluded workshop dubbed, “Institutionalizing Inclusive Peace and Security: The Role of Legislators in Supporting the Women, Peace and Security Agenda,” held at the Nobel Peace Center in Oslo, Norway.
Philippine Ambassador to Norway Jocelyn Batoon-Garcia and Third Secretary Christiansen Cabahug joined Philippine Centre for Islam and Democracy President Dr. Amina Rasul-Bernardo and Fatima Allian of the Women for Justice in the Bangsamoro, who represented the Philippines in the workshop which was co-organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the International Civil Society Action Network (ICAN), and the Norwegian government. The workshop aimed to bring together parliamentarians and members of the civil society to secure the gains of the Women, Peace, and Security agenda, support women peacebuilders all over the world.
Aside from being a participant, Dr. Rasul-Bernardo served as a panelist during an interactive panel discussion about the importance of providing institutional support to women peacebuilders. In her remarks, Dr. Rasul-Bernardo encouraged her colleagues in the civil society to be like canaries in the coal mine, always willing to sacrifice in building peace and ensuring rights of women in crises.
During their informal discussions with Her Royal Highness Sophie, The Countess of Wessex; and Ms. Marita Sørheim-Rensvik, Norway’s Special Envoy on Women, Peace and Security; Ambassador Batoon-Garcia and Dr. Rasul-Bernardo mentioned the great strides and continuing challenges of women peacebuilders in the Philippines.
