CFO Holds “Ugnayan” in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO 09 December 2019 — The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO), in cooperation with the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco, organized the “Ugnayan” with the Filipino-American community in the Bay Area on 19 November 2019 at the Museo ng Lahing Pilipino of the Philippine Center.

The Ugnayan, led by CFO Secretary Francisco P. Acosta, was attended by the members of the Filipino American community and Consulate General.

Guests included two Presidential Awardees, namely, Filipino American Law Enforcement Officers Association (FALEO) President  and 2018 Lingkod sa Kapwa Pilipino Awardee Eric Quema, and Fil-Am in Alaska Community Leader and 2018 Pamana ng Pilipino Awardee Elizabeth Engle.

Officers and staff of the Philippine Consulate, as well as Philippine Center Management Board and attached agencies from the Department of Tourism, Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC), and Social Security System (SSS). Filipino media ABS-CBN/TFC North America Bureau Chief TJ Manotoc, and Inquirer.net correspondent Jun Nucum also attended the event.

The Ugnayan provided an opportunity for the attendees to learn about CFO’s programs and services. It also coincided with the signing of the partnership agreement between the CFO and the Consulate for the Spark* Connect* Empower* (SCE) Movement.

Philippine Consul General to San Francisco Henry S. Bensurto, Jr., in his remarks,  welcomed CFO to the Philippine Center and as the newest SCE partner. “Together as SCE partners, we endeavor to spark interest and pride in our roots and the motherland. We seek to pursue activities that connect Filipinos and Filipino-Americans with each other, with their community, with their country, and with their heritage.”

During the visit in the Bay Area, the CFO conducted various fora and consultations with the Filipino American community. CFO delegation was also able to attend the board meeting of movers behind South of Market (SoMa) Pilipinas, San Francisco’s Filipino cultural district. END
