PH Mission Organizes First PR-Level Meeting of the Asia Pacific Group in the IOM

GENEVA 11 December 2019 — Philippine Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and other International Organization Ambassador Evan P. Garcia chaired the first informal meeting, at Permanent Representative level, of the Asia Pacific Group (APG) of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) on 26 November 2019 at the PCT Building, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). 

The Philippines, as lead proponent of the organization of the APG, serves as the interim coordinator of the group. 

Discussed, among other issues, was the text of the announcement to the IOM of the organization of the Asia Pacific as an informal group, made during the 110th Session of the IOM Council.  The Council sat in session from 26 to 29 November 2019 to deliberate on the agenda prepared by the Director General which includes his strategic vision for the organization and his proposal to strengthen the top management of the IOM. 

On behalf of the APG, the Philippines delivered the regional statement announcing the creation of the group and invites countries to join on 26 November 2019. 

The informal meeting was a follow-up to the experts level meeting organized by the Philippines on 15 November 2019 at the First Floor Conference Room of the IOM. END
