MEXICO 11 December 2019 – In line with its efforts to promote the Philippine creative industries and build on the country´s participation in the Guanajuato International Film Festival in July 2019, the Philippine Embassy in Mexico, together with the Philippine Trade and Investment Center Mexico, hosted a forum on the Philippine Entertainment Industry and Opportunities in the Creative Economy on 26 November 2019 in Mexico City for the members of the Cámara Nacional de la Industria Cinematográfica of Mexico.
The forum, which was attended by Mexican production outfits and suppliers, was opened by Philippine Ambassador to Mexico Demetrio R. Tuason, who highlighted that the Philippines is Mexico´s natural partner in the creative industries given its long-shared history, culture, and values. Quoting Japanese film critic Tadao Sato, Ambassador Tuason said that “Filipino films are unlike the films of other Asian countries, they are closer to films in Mexico.”
Managing Director for North and Latin America of ABS-CBN Global Ltd., Mr. Jun Del Rosario, who served as the main speaker at the forum, conveyed his company´s interest to establish linkages with Mexican companies in order to explore possible collaborations, whether in terms of co-production, distribution, talent exchange, or content creation.
