CHICAGO 11 December 2019 — Upon the request of the Filipino-American Association of Cedar Rapids (FAACR), the Philippine Consulate General in Chicago conducted its 11th consular outreach this year on 23 November 2019 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The Embassy’s consular mission team processed e-passport applications, documents (including civil registry documents), and dual citizenship (principal and beneficiary) petitions.

The consular mission team also provided information and advice on how to resolve various issues related to obtaining/acquiring required civil record documents (e.g., civil status, birth and marriage reports and amendments, judicial recognition of divorce), adoption, retirement to the Philippines, and property/estate documentation

FAACR’s officers and volunteers, led by their President Vilma Thorn and incoming FAACR president Anna Elloren, supported the Team, providing much-needed logistics and crowd-control assistance.

The Consulate and FAACR arranged a series of video presentation on the sidelines of the outreach, which included a video clip from the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking about human trafficking, and a post-event video of the 2019 13th VIP Tour. Consul Lalunio invited the guests and applicants to join the next VIP Tour in July 2020 which features Manila, Iloilo, and Boracay as destinations.

The Consulate and FAACR also introduced The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago Youth Leaders in Diaspora (YouLEAD) Immersion Program, which is specifically designed to help young Fil-Ams trace their roots, discover their heritage, and realize their potential as up-and-coming leaders in the community through a better understanding and appreciation of their ethnicity. A short video that was made by the first batch of YouLEAD participants (who participated in the Program on 03-09 January 2019) was shown, giving the guests and applicants a preview of the unique learnings and experiences that YouLEAD offers.
