PH Embassy in Tokyo Briefs Media Participants on Philippines-Japan Relations

TOKYO 11 December 2019 — The Philippine Embassy in Tokyo briefed media participants to the Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths (JENESYS) Program about Philippines-Japan bilateral relations as well as Philippines’ domestic policies and global agenda on 26 November 2019.
During his presentation, Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) Robespierre L. Bolivar highlighted how Japan now hosts the biggest overeseas Filipino community in Asia with over 313,000 Filipinos living and working in Japan, and over 500,000 Filipino tourists visiting Japan in 2018.
In addition, DCM Bolivar highlighted the achievements of the Duterte administration under its 10-point socio-economic agenda and the Philippines’ progress in achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. He also underscored Japan’s role in contributing to the economic development of the Philippines as the country’s biggest source of Official Development Assistance, particularly in supporting the Philippine government’s Build, Build, Build program, and the peace and development efforts in the Bangsamoro region in Mindanao.
A total of 20 media participants from various private and public media outfits in the Philippines, including a few journalism students, constitute this batch of the JENESYS program. During their stay in Japan, the participants will be visiting local media outfits and government agencies as well as experience Japanese culture through various immersion activities within and outside Tokyo.
The JENESYS is an exchange program that invites approximately 6,000 overseas youths from various sectors to Japan every year with a view towards promoting mutual understanding and friendship with Japanese youths and citizens. END
