BUENOS AIRES 13 December 2019 — The ASEAN Committee in Buenos Aires (ACBA) visited the city of Carlos Casares in the Province of Buenos Aires on 22 November 2019, at the invitation of Mayor Walter Torchio.
The event was spearheaded by the Philippine Embassy in Buenos Aires, which currently holds the chair of the ASEAN Committee. This was the first visit of the ASEAN Committee to the fertile Argentine pampas. The Ambassadors met local businessmen and visited innovative farms and factories, and experienced first-hand the technological advances being used in Casares.
The event commenced with a forum on doing business with ASEAN at the Casares City Hall. ASEAN Ambassadors gave the businessmen brief profiles of their countries, which were followed by the technical presentations of the trade officers.
A traditional asado lunch followed the presentations, during which an exchange of gifts took place. Mayor Torchio presented the Ambassadors with products from Casares, while the Ambassadors presented him with tokens from their countries.
Mayor Torchio accompanied the Ambassadors in their visits to local businesses, starting with Vidal Lacteos, a dairy producer specializing in cheeses, dulce de leche, and butter, followed by a visit to the farm of Tomas Hermanos, a conglomerate of agricultural machinery producers.
Casares has welcomed immigrants of different backgrounds over the years, and is known for advocating peaceful co-existence among them. It is especially proud of welcoming a significant Jewish population. In addition, Casares is also home to one of Argentina’s biggest agricultural conglomerates, the Grobocopatel group, a major producer of soy products. END
