PRETORIA 13 December 2019 — Philippine Ambassador to South Africa and Dean of the Asian Heads of Missions Group Joseph Gerard B. Angeles received Kazakh Ambassador to South Africa Kanat Tumysh in a courtesy call held at the Philippine Embassy in Pretoria on 30 October 2019.

The two Ambassadors exchanged views on developments in the host country and the Southern African region. They also noted the deepening of bilateral relations between the Philippines and Kazakhstan as shown by the recent decision of the latter to allow a 30-day visa-free entry for Filipino citizens.

To further advance the partnership, Ambassador Tumysh recommended that the Philippines negotiate a free trade agreement (FTA) with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), similar to what Singapore and Vietnam had successfully done. He underscored that an FTA with EAEU could provide immense trade and investment opportunities for the Philippines as the economic bloc covers Kazakhstan, Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Russia. END
