Gov’t Officials Reaffirm Strength of Philippines-Nauru Relations

NAURU 16 December 2019 – Philippine Non-Resident Ambassador to Nauru Ma. Hellen B. De La Vega presented her credentials to Nauruan President Lionel Rouwen Aingimea M.P. at Government House on 26 November 2019.
Likewise, Ambassador De La Vega called on a number of Nauru Government Officials during her visit to Nauru on 25-28 November 2019, including Parliament Speaker Marcus Stephen MP, Health and Home Affairs Minister Isabella Dageago MP, Minister for Commerce, Industry and Environment Hon Rennier Gadabu MP, Foreign Affairs and Trade Secretary Mike Aroi, Commerce, Industry and Environment Secretary Berilyn Jeremiah, and Multicultural Affairs Secretary Barina Dubriva.
In her meetings, Ambassador De La Vega noted that the Philippines and Nauru have enjoyed more than 50 years of diplomatic relations which was established on the same year as Nauru’s birth as a republic in 1968. She also emphasized the strong presence of Filipinos in Nauru who have long supported Nauru’s economic and social development.
Meanwhile, the Nauru Government Officials recognized the historic friendship between the Philippines and Nauru and expressed support for marking the importance milestone of more than 50 years of relations through joint activities. The Nauru Government also recognized the contributions of the Filipino diaspora in Nauru throughout its history as a republic and until today. There are around 65 Filipinos currently in Nauru.
Ambassador De La Vega also invited Nauru to participate in the Pacific Business Mission to the Philippine to be held in May 2020 which was warmly welcomed by the Nauru Government. END
