PH Ambassador Briefed on Economic Developments in Nauru

NAURU 16 December 2019 –– Nauru Port Authority CEO Bayden Johnson provided Philippine Non-Resident Ambassador Ma. Hellen B. De La with a tour of the ongoing construction of the port of Nauru on 27 November 2019.
The vision is to develop a climate-resilient port that will improve Nauru’s connectivity and ultimately support social and economic development.
Ambassador De La Vega also attended the opening ceremony of the 1.1 Megawatt Solar System financed by the Government of New Zealand and European Union on the same day. The opening was formally done by Naruan President Lionel Rouwen Aingimea M.P. and High Commissioner of New Zealand Nicola Simmonds. The project supports Nauru’s efforts to meet its renewable energy targets.
Finally, Ambassador De La Vega met with Capelle & Partners Operarions Manager Kenneth Oppenheimer and Manager Crispin Mariano. Capelle & Partners operates a diverse selection of establishments in Nauru including the largest retail store and supermarket. The company currently employs around 10 Filipino workers and has high regard for the work ethic of Filipinos. A number of Filipino snacks are already available in their supermarket.
Earlier, Ambassador De La Vega presented her credentials to Nauruan President Lionel Rouwen Aingimea M.P. on 26 November 2019 at Government House. END
