PH Embassy in The Hague Hosts Year-End Gathering for Filipino Students, Scholars, and Professionals

THE HAGUE 16 December 2019 – The Philippine Embassy in The Hague hosted the year-end gathering for Filipino students, scholars, and professionals in The Netherlands on 29 November 2019 at the Embassy Consular Area.

Around 60 students and scholars from The Hague, cities of Amsterdam, Delft, Eindhoven, Rotterdam, Maastricht, and Utrecht, as well as professionals from the Academe, fields of environment, engineering, architecture, logistics, and business, joined in the gathering. 

The event was also attended by Filipinos working for international organizations, such as the International Criminal Court (ICC), International Organization for Migration (IOM), International Development Law Organization (IDLO), Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH), and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

Philippine Ambassador to the Netherlands Jaime Victor B. Ledda welcomed the newly-arrived scholars and career migrants to the Embassy. Program followed with guests informally introducing themselves and playing the hugot card game as part of the Philippine Embassy in the Hague’s cultural diplomacy efforts to promote Philippine culture. Guests put more of themselves into the game and were creative as they could, making the event an insightful and humorous activity.

Ambassador Ledda also announced the success of the Philippine delegation, who took part and participated in the proceedings of the recently concluded 24th Conference of States Parties (CSP) of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) from 25 to 29 November 2019 at the World Forum. He also informed the guests on the following events namely: the observance of the National Consciousness Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women and Children from 25 November to 12 December 2019; a meeting of Filipino leaders with Philippine Labor Attaché to the Netherlands Atty. Delmer Cruz on labor and migration issues on 30 November 2019; the 31st Annual Meeting of the Governing Council of the Common Fund for Commodities in The Hague from 03 to 04 December 2019 and the forthcoming film showing of Noli Me Tangere’s “Ang Kababaihan ng Malolos” on 07 December 2019; in observance of the 100 years of Philippine cinema and 123rd anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal’s martyrdom.

The gathering is the yearly tradition of the Philippine Embassy at The Hague to meet students and professionals of both Filipino and Filipino-Dutch descent on thanksgiving day to meet and network with fellow Filipinos and have simple salo-salo of traditional Philippine cuisine. END
