NAIROBI 19 December 2019 –– As chair of ASEAN Nairobi Committee for 2019, the Philippine Embassy in Nairobi held the first ASEAN Family Day with a bowling activity at the Village Bowl, Village Market on 08 November 2019.

“Today, we celebrate the true spirit of ASEAN as one community, sharing and caring, an ASEAN Community in Nairobi that is one family. Family is the true cornerstone of each ASEAN country. Our families give us the determination and strength to succeed,” Ambassador to Kenya Alex G. Chua said during his opening remarks.

“Our ASEAN Family in Nairobi is particularly important, because though we might not be biologically related, the ASEAN community,  forged by our unity in our diversity, bonds us together in our home away from home, which is Kenya,” Ambassador Chua emphasized.

The ASEAN Family Day culminated in a feast of ASEAN delicacies.

The Philippines, as Chair of the ASEAN Committee in Nairobi, hopes that the ASEAN Family Day will be a permanent part of the ASEAN Community calendar in Nairobi, as a testament to the dynamic and close relations among ASEAN in Kenya.

The three other ASEAN countries that have representations in Kenya are Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. END
