PH Embassy Promotes Trade and Investments at the ASEAN Business Forum in Merida, Mexico

MEXICO 19 December 2019 –– The Philippine Embassy in Mexico, together with four resident ASEAN Embassies in Mexico, participated in the ASEAN Business Forum (ABF) in Merida, Mexico on 14 November 2019.
The Philippine delegation was composed of First Secretary Ma. Carmela Teresa A. Cabreira and Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) Commercial Counsellor in Mexico Vichael Angelo D. Roaring. The Ambassadors of Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and the Chargé d´Affaires, a.i. of Thailand headed their respective delegations.
The ABF, which aims to introduce Mexican companies to the many business and investment opportunities that ASEAN countries have to offer, is part of the ASEAN Committee in Mexico City´s (ACMC) activities for 2019. The forum was organized by the Embassy of Indonesia in Mexico as Chair of the ACMC, in close cooperation with the Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade, Investment, and Technology (COMCE) Yucatan.
During the forum, the Philippine delegation focused its presentation on creating awareness among members of the business community from the provinces of Yucatan, Quintana Roo, and Campeche about the many trade and investment opportunities in the Philippines, particularly those in the manufacturing, IT-BPM, and aerospace sectors. The delegation also highlighted the close historical and cultural links between the Philippines and Mexico, which provide further incentive for deeper economic cooperation.
Prior to the forum, the ASEAN delegations met with Yucatan Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal to discuss possible collaboration projects that would bring ASEAN and its members countries closer not just to the members of the province´s business community, but also to the people of Yucatan.
Yucatan has one of the best performing economies in Mexico. According to Ceoworld Magazine, Merida, the capital of Yucatan, is considered as the safest and second safest city in Latin America and North America, respectively. Key international exports of the province include pork, seafood, honey, and limes. END
