PH Exporters Embark on Outbound Business Matching Mission in Ethiopia

CAIRO 22 December 2019 — The Department of Trade and Industry-Export Marketing Bureau, together with the Philippine Trade and Investment Center Dubai, and in cooperation with the Philippine Embassy in Cairo, organizes the Outbound Business Matching Mission (OBMM) to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 14 to 16 November 2019.

Participants from the Office of the Ethiopian Honorary Consul to the Philippines and five Filipino companies – DMC Enterprises, HWL, Inc., Marikina Food Corporation, San Miguel Pure Foods Company, Inc., and Unilab Inc., explored the emerging new market in Ethiopia.

They conducted store visits and participated in the Addis Ababa Interfood 2019 – an international food and beverage exhibition organized under the patronage of the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce, the Ethiopian Ministry of Trade and Industry, and Ministry of Agriculture.

On 15 November, the OBMM team met with Mr. Frew Mamo Haile, State Minister Advisor of the Ethiopian Ministry of Trade and Industry. In the meeting, both sides highlighted ways of establishing links and hurdling various trade barriers.

During the business matching session at the Royal Sheger Hotel in Addis Ababa, the OBMM participants met with Ethiopian food, cosmetics and medicine importers and exporters.

Philippine Ambassador to Egypt Sulpicio M. Confiado underscored in his opening remarks the trade and investment potentials between the Philippines and Ethiopia.

Investment Promotion Directorate and Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations Director Benyam Mesgina Ezra welcomed the Philippine delegation and conveyed his support to further the trade activities between the two countries.

By tapping into the Ethiopian market, the Philippines may benefit from Ethiopia’s growing economy, its young large population, and its position as home of the African Union Headquarters. END
