PH Embassy in Jakarta Holds Paskong Pinoy Celebration

INDONESIA 23 December 2019 — The Philippine Embassy in Jakarta, in cooperation with the Filipino community, celebrated Paskong Pinoy 2019 on 01 December 2019 at Singapore International School in Jakarta. The festive event, attended by almost a thousand Filipinos in Jakarta, highlighted the traditional Filipino Christmas spirit which was started with the Filipino Catholic thanksgiving mass celebrated by two Filipino priests currently based in Jakarta.

In his opening remarks, Philippine Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia Leehiong T. Wee acknowledged the strong Filipino Christmas spirit not only in the Philippines but also around the world. Ambassador Wee expressed his warmest Christmas greetings to the Filipino community in Indonesia, led by the Organizing Committee Chair Ms. Tess Koesoemawiria, who shared their time, talent, and treasures in this successful event.

Ambassador Noel Servigon, the Philippine Permanent Representative to ASEAN, was very happy to celebrate Christmas with the Filipino community in Jakarta as well. In his speech, he related that Jakarta, Indonesia is dear to him, having been with the Office of ASEAN Affairs in the DFA and as the Philippine Consul General in Manado some years ago.

Filipino families in Jakarta enjoyed the Paskong Pinoy celebration with the Christmas Carols and song and dance numbers, childrens’ games, and even a Bilao (winnowing baskets) Christmas decorating contest. There were also lots of raffle prizes given away by the Embassy including a salad master kitchenware from dealer Mr. Edgardo Fuentes and a round-trip air ticket from Philippine Airlines. The participants also enjoyed lechon and Filipino delicacies such as dinuguan (pork blood stew), puto (rice cakes), turon (fried banana spring rolls), palitaw (flat sweet rice cake) and many more delicious food from the food bazaar. END
