HUNGARY 23 December 2019 — The Philippine Embassy and the Filipino community in Budapest participated in the ninth year of the Annual Diplomatic Fair on 24 November 2019 at the Intercontinental Hotel.  The Diplomatic Fair is a fund-raising event held annually before the holiday season where embassies and other Hungarian institutions participate.

Organized by the Diplomatic Spouses of Budapest, this year’s fundraising event was highly successful in terms of participation from many Embassies and visitors as the organizers raised over 11,000,000.00 HUF (36,749.60 US Dollars) which will benefit various Hungarian charities identified by the organizers.

At the event, Embassies set up their national booths, both selling dry good items and traditional cuisine.  The Philippines sold Philippine products including mango juices, candied mangoes, fresh water pearls, and other jewelry items from the Philippines. Tourism posters were displayed and brochures were distributed to the public. There was also a food corner manned by the Filipino community members who sold Philippine delicacies and snacks.

The Diplomatic Spouses of Budapest is an organization composed of the spouses of diplomats in Budapest.  Its current president is Madame Elda Spasse, wife of the Ambassador of Albania. The Guest of Honor of the Diplomatic Fair, as customary, was Madame Anita Herczegh, the wife of the Hungarian President Janos Ader. Madame Szilvia Szijjártó, wife of Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, also attended the event.END
