New PH Honorary Consul in Essen Takes Oath of Office

BERLIN 06 January 2020 — New Philippine Honorary Consul in Essen Joachim Heinrich Oskar Rumstadt, with consular coverage over North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland Palatinate, and Saarland, took his oath of office at the Philippine Embassy in Berlin on 02 December 2019 before Philippine Ambassador to Germany Ma.Theresa Dizon-De Vega. He was appointed as Philippine Honorary Consul by Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr.

Mr. Rumstadt took his oath after the conclusion of the 2020 Planning Conference for all Philippine Foreign Service Posts, attached Agencies, and Honorary Consulates in Germany which was likewise held at the Philippine Embassy in Berlin.

Mr. Rumstadt is the Chairperson of the Board of Management of STEAG GmbH, formerly Evonik STEAG GmbH, since January 2009. He also represents the company in national associations and international institutions.

Prior to his appointment to the STEAG Board in 2007, Mr. Rumstadt headed the Strategic Business Development department and was operationally responsible for the Power Division of the company. He likewise served as Head of the Executive Office and of the Risk Management Department. Before joining the STEAG Team in the late 1990s as corporate counsel, Rumstadt was an advisor on international and European law at the research institute of the Deutsche Hochschule für Verwaltungswissenschaften (German University of Administrative Sciences) in Speyer. He obtained his law degree from the University of Heidelberg and worked for two years as a junior lawyer.

Mr. Rumstadt has spent some time in the Philippines where STEAG with Philippine partners operates power generation facilities in Misamis Oriental in Mindanao.

The Philippine Honorary Consulate in Essen is scheduled to open in the early part of 2020. END
