USA 07 January 2020 –– Pinoys in Pursuit of Learning (PIPOL), a newly formed non-profit organization based in San Francisco, represented by co-founder Ma. Elena Lanot, signed the Spark*Connect*Empower (SCE) Partnership Agreement with Philippine Consul General to San Francisco, led by Consul Genera Henry S. Bensurto, Jr. on 08 November 2019.

The signing was witnessed by HRMO Assistant Secretary Antonio Morales, and PIPOL co-founders Richard Lanot and Veronica Colmenar.

PIPOL was established in March 2019 by the following young Filipino professionals working in various industries in the San Francisco Bay Area and Silicon Valley.  Their aim is to inspire Filipino youth to become changemakers, leaders, and experts in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Based on their own experiences, PIPOL hopes to encourage more students to consider careers in STEM by providing opportunities for personal and professional growth to students and public school teachers.

PIPOL conducted a pilot activity in Buting Public High School in Pasig City on 24 September 2019 by organizing a speaker series focused on STEM. During this activity, speakers from DOST, Unilab, DXC Technology and Drive Manila shared their personal experiences and entertained questions from students about building careers in STEM.

PIPOL hopes to sustain these activities, as well as organize mentorship programs, trainings, and facilitate scholarships in the future.

In signing the SCE Agreement, PIPOL has committed to initiate activities for Filipino Americans that will spark love for their Filipino heritage and culture, connect them with like-minded networks and individuals, and empower them to take action for the betterment of the country. END
