07 April 2014 – The Philippine Embassy in Lebanon joined the Department of Foreign Affairs’ observance of the 7th World Autism Awareness Day on April 2.  With the theme “Understanding and Embracing People with Autism,” the awareness campaign aims to intensify public awareness on autism and to encourage the public to accept persons with autism as rightful members of the society.  The yearly observance of this awareness campaign is a worldwide undertaking pursuant to a United Nations Resolution adopted by the General Assembly on 18 December 2007.

The Embassy’s Information Officer took the time to impart the significance of the activity to Embassy clients while they read the banner. The Embassy will also keep the banner posted for one week, from April 2 to 8, to enable more Filipino and Lebanese clients to see and be reminded of its objectives. To mark the occasion and to show their support for the awareness campaign, the Embassy, Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) officers and staff led by Philippine Ambassador to Lebanon Leah M. Basinang-Ruiz also wore blue-colored attire on April 2.  END
