KENYA 07 January 2020 –– The Philippine Embassy in Nairobi under the leadership of Philippine Ambassador to Kenya Ambassador Alex G. Chua, met with Tiserin Capital, a private equity fund based in Kenya interested in bringing Philippine products to East Africa on 07 November 2019 in Nairobi.
Tiserin Capital founder German Vegarra expressed great interest in deepening trade and investment relations between the Philippines and Kenya since both countries have the same demographic and culture of family-owned businesses that work hard to achieve success.
Ambassador Chua agreed it is time for the Philippines to improve its presence in Africa in line with the Philippine government’s move to seek new and non-traditional partners.
Tiserin Capital announced in its 2019 newsletter the partnership between Universal Robina Corporation (URC) and The Kenya Tea Packers Limited (Ketepa), the largest packer, blender and distributor of tea in Kenya.
Ketepa is also a subsidiary of the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA), the world’s largest exporter of tea with over USD 1 billion in annual revenue.
The said venture could pave the way for the introduction of Philippine products, beginning with much-loved URC snacks like Jack’N Jill, to enter the Kenyan market and create a new fan-base in Africa starting in 2020. END
