07 April 2014 – Philippine Ambassador to China Erlinda F. Basilio hosted a dinner on April 1 to welcome Mme. Fu Ying, Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) of China and former Vice Foreign Minister, as the special guest of the ASEAN Committee in Beijing (ACB), of which Ambassador Basilio is the current Chairperson.
In an effort to bring ASEAN and China closer, Ambassador Basilio invited Mme. Fu Ying to give an informal briefing to the ASEAN Committee in Beijing on the outcomes of the recently concluded annual session of the 12th NPC and on the workings of China’s parliamentary body. Mme. Fu Ying also had a candid exchange of views with the ASEAN Ambassadors on ASEAN-China relations as well as various regional issues.
At the start of the dinner, Ambassador Basilio expressed her deep appreciation to Mme. Fu Ying for her much-welcome presence as the special guest at the dinner and said that she and the ACB look forward to more interactions with Mme. Fu Ying and the NPC.
In attendance during the dinner at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Beijing were the Ambassador of Brunei Magdalene Teo; Cambodian Ambassador Khek M. Caimealy, Indonesian Ambassador Soegeng Rahardjo, Ambassador of Thailand Wiboon Khusakul, Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Van Tho, Mrs. Fang Hong, Deputy Director-General of the NPC’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Singapore’s Deputy Chief of Mission Eric Teo, Lao First Secretary Soulisack Soulithone, and ACB Coordinators from the ASEAN Embassies in Beijing.
