07 April 2014 – The Philippine Embassy in Amman, in cooperation with the Jordan Breast Cancer Program (JBCP), celebrated the International Women’s Month 2014 through a Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar with free screening on March 28 at the Embassy premises.

Ms. Nancy Ala’eddin, Head of the Health Communications Department, conducted the one and a half hour lecture and discussion on breast cancer definition, symptoms, risk factors, stages and early detection tests.  Meanwhile, Ms. Latifah Zuhdi, Deputy General Manager of the Jordanian Women’s Union and a nurse with long experience with the UN Relief and Works Agency, conducted the free screening.

The Filipino community in Jordan greatly appreciated the event, particularly the free screening offered by JBCP.  It highlighted the importance of early detection of breast cancer before it occurs.  Though breast cancer cannot be prevented, early detection and cure are great factors of survival.

A total of 51 participants attended the seminar, including the leaders and members of the Filipino community along with the Embassy’s home-based and local hire staff and their spouses.  Forty (40) of the 51 participants were females and 11 were males.

The three-hour program ended with lunch for all the participants and organizers. END
